March 26, 2007 on 9:15 pm | In Musing | No CommentsMyspace is one of the most popular sites on the web today. It is a “social networking” site - a site that allows users a way to express themselves, share interests related to music, photos, videos, and anything else you can think of. With over 50 million users, Myspace is truly one site that any Net user needs to be aware of.
If you are already a user, you know that Myspace provides you with considerable flexibility. You can make your Myspace profile and blog stand out very easily, using a few simple techniques.
1) Remember that first time visitors want to quickly evaluate before moving on. Keep the content (your profile and other information) short and to the point. At the same time, make sure that there is enough meat to keep their attention.
2) Use a suitable myspace layouts generator to create an attractive looking page. There are also many free myspace layouts available for download from the web.
3) You can also find myspace backgrounds and free images available at various places. Selectively use these to make the page attractive.
4) If you are using photos of yourself and your interests, make sure that the pictures present you in the best light. Select your images with care, keeping the prospective viewer in mind.
5) Alternatively, if you wish to protect your identity, use a cartoon or other funny picture to pleasantly yet firmly convey that you are not willing to reveal yourself.
These simple techniques can make your Myspace page unique and unforgettable.
Nemo Loans
March 25, 2007 on 11:05 pm | In Musing | No CommentsEveryone needs money at times; unexpected expenses, emergencies, or even planned purchases or activities that take more than you have in hand. Most people assume that there are only two options available
1) Dip into your savings, or break the investment
2) Put it on a credit card.
Neither of these are particularly good; breaking an investment means you could have an opportunity loss, and credit cards have a high interest rate. Unless you expect to pay it off within a couple of months, credit cards can extract a high toll.
So what’s the alternative? There are a variety of secured loans that can be obtained quite easily, and at a reasonable interest rate. Here are some examples.
If you have a home improvement project, look for a home improvement loan. Financing is not difficult if you are working and you are able to afford repayments on a loan. Typically, these can be paid off over one to five years with a fixed monthly instalment.
If you’re looking to buy appliances or furniture, a personal secured loan is a good option. This is typically given to people who’re employed by medium to large sized organizations, and could be secured by your savings or investments.
If you run a small business, check around for a self employed loan. You’ll need to provide business references and your statements of accounts and taxes, but you can get the loan sanctioned fairly fast.
These are examples; for your specific requirements, talk to your bank or financial advisor.

Many people take the plunge, and it’s indeed fulfilling for a great many. Yet, for every success that is seen, there are many failures. Most of these can be traced to a few common factors such as not planning the business strategy, or ignoring the revenue model, or even selecting the wrong activity in the first place.
Another important factor, and a common fallacy is to assume that being an entrepreneur means that you have to “go it alone”. Not necessarily - the best entrepreneurs succeed through the efforts of others, having a whole support system to guarantee success.

Expat Intelligence - For The Long Term
March 8, 2007 on 12:52 am | In Musing | No CommentsWith increasing globalization, it’s becoming customary for large corporations to move executives to overseas assignments. Increasingly, the only path for rapid career growth is to be willing to relocate at short notice, to any part of the world. While expat benefits are provided, it still takes an effort to adjust to changes in culture, attitudes and living style. The better way out is to use expat intelligence.
rn
What is expat intelligence? Basically, it involves understanding as much as possible about living overseas, especially with regard to personal requirements. Travel advisory services can provide some information, but they are usually geared to short term visitors; information on hotels, tour attractions, or business facilities.
rn
In contrast, sites dealing with expat intelligence usually provide information on a variety of categories; housing, school facilities, entertainment, shopping for personal requirements, diet and supplements, insurance, taxes, and legal requirements like driving licenses and import of goods. Typically, they also have forums where you can ask other expats for advice relating to your problem or requirement.
rn
Sometimes, based on the information that’s available, you might decide to decline the assignment. Or you may decide to go across alone, rather than relocate the family and then find that there are too many insurmountable problems. Either way, forewarned is forearmed.
